Plot

After discovering his girlfriend in a compromising situation, New York journalist Jake Bridges seeks solace in Atlantic City, drowning his sorrows in alcohol. A bar fight leads him to the rescue of Frankie, a minor mobster, who introduces him to a new world. As Jake becomes entangled in Frankie's schemes to collect debts, he finds himself irresistibly drawn to Melissa, Frankie's girlfriend.
