Plot

Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis share the screen in their sole film collaboration, portraying a complex romance amid wartime tension. Reagan stars as Casey Abbott, the commander of a World War II submarine, while Davis plays Helen Blair, a navy nurse and Abbott's intermittently involved girlfriend. During a crucial mission to recover a groundbreaking Japanese mine, Abbott must make the agonizing decision to abandon frogman Wes Barton (Harry Lauter) to ensure his crew's survival. Tensions rise as Abbott’s second-in-command, Don Landon (Eduard Franz), suspects personal motives behind the commander’s choice, linked to Barton’s interest in Helen.
