Tetsuro Tamba (July 17, 1922 – September 24, 2006) was a celebrated Japanese actor whose impressive career spanned five decades, showcasing his remarkable versatility. He gained international fame for his role as Tiger Tanaka in the 1967 James Bond classic "You Only Live Twice," which played a significant part in bridging cultures through cinema.

Before stepping into the world of acting, Tamba served as an interpreter for the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers. He graduated from Chuo University in 1948, and soon after, he joined Shintoho, making his film debut in "Satsujin Yougishain" in 1951.

Tamba's influence on audiences was not limited to his Bond appearance; he also delivered memorable performances in films such as "Bridge to the Sun" and "The 7th Dawn." In Japan, he received accolades for his leading roles in popular police dramas like "Key Hunter" and "G-Men '75."

His talents extended beyond film; Tamba voiced characters like the Cat King in Studio Ghibli’s "The Cat Returns" and was known for his impactful roles in historical television dramas, solidifying his presence in period pieces.

Despite facing health issues in 2005, Tamba remained active until his passing due to pneumonia in Tokyo at the age of 84 on September 24, 2006. His legacy continues through his son, actor Yoshitaka Tamba, while his final roles in the 2005 Taiga drama "Yoshitsune" and the 2006 film "Sinking of Japan" serve as enduring reminders of his significant contributions to Japanese cinema and beyond.
