Elisabeth Risdon
Elisabeth Risdon, born Daisy Cartwright Risdon on April 26, 1887, was a prominent English actress whose career spanned from the silent film era into the early 1950s. With an impressive filmography of over 140 films, Risdon made her mark in the industry, initially captivating audiences with her beauty and talent in society roles before transitioning to character parts later in her career.
Raised in London, Risdon honed her craft at the Royal Academy of Arts, graduating with distinction in 1918. Her remarkable talents caught the eye of renowned playwright George Bernard Shaw, leading to her starring in some of his most celebrated works. She enjoyed a successful stage career, sharing the spotlight with respected actors such as George Arliss, Otis Skinner, and William Faversham, and was a long-term contract player for the Theatre Guild.
In her later years, Risdon dedicated herself to teaching drama at a veterans administration hospital near her home in Brentwood, California, showcasing her commitment to helping others through the arts. She was first married to George Loane Tucker, a silent film director, who passed away in 1921, and later wed actor Brandon Evans, who died in April 1958. Elisabeth Risdon passed away on December 20, 1958, from a cerebral hemorrhage in Santa Monica, California, leaving behind a legacy enriched by her contributions to film and theater. Her body was donated to medical science, continuing her spirit of giving. She was also the great-aunt of actress Wendy Barrie-Wilson.
