Lt. Koji Kitami, a skilled navigator-bombardier in Japan's Naval Air Force, takes part in the historic attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Upon returning home, he is celebrated as a hero, basking in national pride amidst Japan's early victories in the Pacific War. However, as the tide turns and the Japanese navy suffers a devastating defeat at Midway, Kitami's unwavering belief in his country’s cause begins to falter.
